Wherever The River Runs: How a Forgotten People Renewed My Hope in the Gospel by Kelly Minter. UMW Reading List - Education for Mission
Kelly Minter invites us on a jungle adventure down a river teeming with piranhas, caimans, a beautiful people, and especially, the glory of God. Her honest and engaging narrative pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating places on earth as well as on parts of the gospel we may be able to recite but have never fully believed. Click the link below to view a video narrated by Kelly about her trip and see her webpage about the book. http://kellyminter.com/wherever-the-river-runs/ I started reading this book last weekend and absolutely love it. Many times I have found myself wiping tears from my eyes. One of the moments that touched me most was when her group visits a church in a flooded village and she talks with a young boy after their service. This boy seemed somewhat detached from the events and she stopped afterwards to speak with him stating that she noticed him and asked if he needed anything. The boys comments back were that he didn't need anything, but he was overwhelmed that someone noticed him, that God noticed him! Sometimes that's all a person really needs is to know that God knows they are there! Pick up your copy today and start reading. You wont be disappointed. Sometimes I think we forget about our church membership. There are those who you know are absent on any particular Sunday, but it is those that you don't know are absent that need tending to.

I am constantly struggling with what I need vs. what I want. If I am truly honest, I know I already have everything I could possibly need, most of what I want, and I have a Father who loves me unconditionally. As I have aged, my relationship with God, my faith in Him, has gained a greater importance than just about anything else. I am finding contentment in who I am with Him and that is very satisfying.

The author sort of fell into her passion for the Amazon by accident. I am not sure that God is calling me to go into the remote jungles of the world, but I know he is calling me to have a passion for others. Which country or city has God put on your heart to bless by praying, giving or going?

Belize has held a special place in my heart for over 30 years. It was sort of dropped in my lap when my sister-in-law and brother-in-law became full time missionaries there. I have traveled there for pleasure and to work in the school they founded 25 years ago. To see my prayers for this ministry answered, to shake hands and hug the people we have financially supported through the years, and stand side by side with the students during weekly worship fills my heart with such humble gratitude.
